Effect of crop geometry and plant density on processing grade tuber yield of potato cv. Kufri Jyoti

Abstract

In a field study conducted at Modipuram in west-central plains, total tuber number, biomass and tuber yield decreased in cv. Kufri Jyoti as the row and in-row spacing increased or plant density decreased, while the reverse was true for process grade tuber number (%) and yield (q/ha) without significantly affecting tuber dry matter, reducing sugars and chip colour. The best crop geometry for getting higher process grade tubers (66.5 %) was 75 X 30 cm (50,000 plants/ha).
