An evaluation of paddy-potato-wheat crop sequence in Haryana

Abstract

A cropping system experiment (Paddy-Potato-Wheat) consisting of combinations of two crop duration (80 and 90 days) for potato and five fertilizer doses to wheat was conducted at RRS (CCSHAU, Hisar), Karnal (Haryana). Potato (Kufri Ashoka) yield increased with increase in crop duration. Yield of wheat was higher where potato was harvested at 80 days but was not influenced by the P and K doses given to wheat crop. Mean yield of wheat was 29.29 q/ha (mean for all treatments and both the years). Wheat utilized the residual P&K left by potato and did not respond to its direct application. Yield of paddy, which was 64.4 q/ha (mean of all treatments), was not influenced by any of the treatments. It is concluded that paddy (cv. Gobind) - potato (cv. Kufri Ashoka) - wheat (cv. PBW-373) is a suitable cropping system for Haryana and P&K residues after potato is sufficient for wheat.
