Abstract

The present study compared the barley-potato sequence with barley-potato relay intercropping to find out the suitable cropping geometry and planting densities in barley-potato relay intercropping systems and their effect on yield and compelilion. Maximum yield advantage was observed, on the basis of LER (Land equivalent ratio), in the barley-potato sequence and paired row barley (100% population) + potato relay intercropping system (where potato was planted in standing barley crop i.e. about a month before the harvesting of barley), Whereas, on the basis of ATER (Area × time equivalency ratio), paired row barley (100% population) + potato relay intercropping system proved better than the barley - potato sequence.
