Development of a non-radioactive probe for detection of potato virus Y

The use of a simple, sensitive and non-radioactive method based on nucleic acid hybridization with fluorescein labeled probe for detecting potato virus Y (PVY) has been investigated. The non-radioactive detection methods offer several advantages, and all the reagents needed to perform the labeling of DNA are commercially available. This technology has longer shelf life, equal sensitivity and potential for large-scale indexing programs.
