Studies on potato storage carried out at Modipuram during 1997–2001 showed total losses of 17.7% in heap made in the sun, 16.4% in heap made under the shade of a tree and 9.8% in heap made under the shade of a tree and protected with a thatched roof, in Kufri Bahar after 90 days of storage. Storage losses were lower in Kufri Jyoti. By advancing the date of storage from mid-March to end of February and by erecting a thatched roof over the heap, it was possible to reduce the total storage losses to less than 10% for 90 days of storage.
