Abstract

Sprout growth of potato tubers of different sizes was determined in two potato cultivars differing in dormancy duration, after 90 days of storage in heap, katcha pit and pucca pit. Tubers weighing 15–30g had lower percentage of sprouting and fewer sprouts compared to larger ones. The higher percentage of sprouting, greater sprout number per tuber and longer sprouts in Kufri Bahar may be the reason for higher weight loss in this cultivar during storage in heap and pits.
