Abstract

Three advanced heat tolerant potato genotypes, HT/92-621, HT/92-418 & HT/92-802 along with two control varieties Kufri Bahar and Kufri Jyoti were evaluated for storage at room temperature (23–35 °C) for 75 days. Tuber weight loss in the heat tolerant genotypes was at par with control cultivars up to 60 days after storage (DAS) while it was significantly lower (9.7%) than controls (11.6 to 12.2 %) at 75 DAS. Substantial increase in weight loss after 60 DAS could be attributed to higher sprouting intensity in Kufri Bahar and higher rattage in Kufri Jyoti. Heat tolerant genotypes had lower rattage, sprouting and weight loss at 75 DAS, hence had a better keeping quality at room temperature than the control cultivars.
