Abstract

Exports of agricultural products from India would have an edge over industrial manufactured goods in the post WTO era. Factors like product differentiation, design, brand image, servicing, fashion etc. are much less important in agriculture as compared to sophisticated manufactured products. Agricultural prices in India are generally lower than international prices, which offer scope for profitable exports. Further, the WTO has substantially liberalized global agricultural trade by lowering trade restrictions and subsidies in agriculture. Despite these, the quantum of our exports in agriculture is very low.
