The study of soil and plant N as influenced by furrow method of irrigation and trickle fertigation on potatoes revealed highest concentration of NO3-N in the soil in the 30–45 cm layer after 2 days of first irrigation in the furrow method. After second irrigation, NO3-N content that was maximum in the surface layer was reduced to the minimum after 10 days. In the trickle fertigated plot, NO3-N was maximum in the 15–30 cm layer irrespective of the number of days after irrigation. Total plant N under trickle treatments was higher than furrow irrigated crop. The high fertilizer use efficiency resulted in higher crop yield in the trickle fertigated crop.
