Tuber and foliage resistance to late blight in advanced potato hybrids

Abstract

Twelve advance stage hybrids, from the breeding programme for developing improved potato varieties for the hills, were evaluated for resistance to late blight in foliage and tubers. Eight hybrids possessing resistance both in foliage and tubers were identified. Some of these are already being evaluated in multilocation trials to assess their suitability for release as commercial cultivars. These could, in addition, be used as parents in the late blight resistance breeding programme.
