Abstract

Work on breeding improved potato varieties for Gujarat region was initiated at the Gujarat Agriculture University, SK Nagar in year 2000. It has resulted in identification of several high yielding cultures,viz.,DSP/01–287 (570.8 q/ha), DSP/01–33 (535.9 q/ha) and DSP/01–200 (530.0 q/ha) for ware potato production, and DSP/01–104 (420.8 q/ha), DSP/01–272 (455.8 q/ha) and DSP/01–186 (459.2) for processing. Using these cultures, large trials over several locations and years are proposed to be conducted in next few years.
