Abstract

An integrated biological and chemical seed tuber treatment comprised of a spray of boric acid on seed tubers before cold storage and application of Trichoderma viride at planting was evaluated for control of black scurf of potato, a disease prevalent throughout India. Field trials carried out for four consecutive years (2004–08) revealed that the seed treatment with 1.5% boric acid followed by an application of a T. virde formulation containing 1×107 c.f.u./g @ 4.5g/kg at planting reduced the disease to level achieved with 3% boric acid spray. This integrated treatment can thus be friendlier to the environment than the currently recommended treatment.
