Response to phosphorus, potassium and farm yard manure in multiple cropping with potato

Abstract

Farm Yard Manure increased potato, tuber yields appreciably (8 to 10 t/ha) followed by the treatments P plus K (4 to 5 t/ha) and P (1 to 3 t/ha) only. The residual effect of F Y M and other fertilizers persisted (0.2 to 2.6 t/ha) in the second (mung, maize and jute) crops; the effect of FYM persisted even in the third crop of rice (0.4 to 0.9 t/ha). The effect of crop sequences on the yield of different crops was not significant. The soils after the harvest of mung or jute showed slightly higher organic carbon contents. FYM increased the K status of the soil as compared to the treatments receiving P and K in inorganic forms. FYM increased the margin of profit per annum appreciabiy and it was much higher than the treatments which received P and K in inorganic forms; the highest profit was recorded in potato - maize - rice sequence.
