Field experiments were conducted in acidic brown hill soils of Fagu (R. P.) during 1975 and 1976 to find the optimum P dose and best method of its application to potatoes (var. Kufri Jyoti). P application increased the tuber yields significantly and the optimum P dose worked out was 52.0 kg/ha. P application increased the size and dry matter content of tubers, P content of leaves and P uptake by the tuber. The P content of the leaves at 60 days after planting was significantly correlated with the tuber yield. Furrow placement of P was significantly better than broadcasting and band placement, in increasing the tuber yield. P content of leaves and P uptake by the tubers.
