During October 1977, Phytophthora erythroseptica was found to incite collar and tuber rot symptoms on the plants grown in the glasshouse. The pathogenicity tests were conducted on the whole plants and tubers of different varities. The plants with injured roots when grown in infested soil developed symptoms earlier than the plants with uninjured root system. The tubers of all the seven varieties tested were suceptible to the pathogen.
The occurence of the disease was recorded from different potato growing localities of Simla hills and the inciderice was upto 10% leiding to significant losses in the field.
