Effect of feeding of late blight affected potatoes was investigated on rabbits. Hundred percent mortality of pups and pre-delivery death of one mother rabbit was recorded in rabbits fed with diseased potatoes with poor diet as compared to 75% mortality of pups in rabbits fed with healthy potatoes (control) and 87.5% in rabbits red with diseased tubers with average diet. Some of the pups also had abnormalities viz. microophthalmia, stunted limbs and ectopia viscerum. Out of 1000 deliveries recorded in women, 54 were abnormal ones.
A Correlation of socio-economic status, of human families and clinical data revealed that abnormal deliveries were more common among anothers who were from lower economic strata and depended much on potatoes as the part of their diet.
