Abstract

On the coarse-textured soils at Patna (Bihar) the highest yields were obtained by scheduling irrigations to the potato crop at 20mm and 25mm Cumulative Pan Evaporation (CPE) both in the presence and the absence of straw mulch. Mulching increased the yield specially with frequent irrigations scheduled at 20 mm and 25 mm CPE. The frequency of irrigation could be reduced with mulching by 1–2 irrigations.
