Genetic variability and correlations were studied in 26 cultivars of potato. The genetic coefficient of variation was high for number of stems and number of tubers per plant. High heritability estimates were recorded in plant height and number of stems. High genetic advance (% of mean) values for the above traits indicated the substantial scope of selection for their improvement. Highly significant positive correlations between yield and plant height, number of stems, number of tubers and tuber weight were observed. Number of tubers per plant had highly significant, positive association with number of stems and plant height and negative with tuber weight. Significant negative correlation was recorded for tuber weight with number of stems and number of tubers. The number of stems per hill and plant height had positive, significant correlation with all the characters except average tuber weight.
