Leafhopper fauna collected from potato fields in India

Abstract

The survey and collection of leafhopper fauna was made from potato and other adjoining crops/weeds from different agroclimatic regions of India. In all, 74 leafhopper species were collected and were got identified. Kapsa simlens's Dwor, Nagaich et. Singh and Dikraneura grisea sp. n. were new records from Simla. Alebroroides dravidanus Ram et. Menon proved to be the vector of potato purple top roll (PTR) and witch's broom (WB) pathogens, whereas, Seriana equata Singh transmitted only marginal flavescence (MF) and PTR. Orosius albicinctus Dist. was found to transmit all the 3 diseases viz. PTR, WB and MF.
