The tarsonemid mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Bank) is a serious pest of potato crop in the plateau region of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The field trials conducted for its chemical control during 1974 to 1976 revealed that seven pesticides viz., Kelthane (Dicofol 18.5 EC), Tranid (Tranid 50 EC), Endosulfan (Thiodan 35 EC), Quinalphos (Ekalux 25 EC), Carbaryl (Sevin 50 WP), Chlordime-form (Fundal 80%) and Sulphur (sulphon 80%) @ 0.36, 1.0, 1.0, 0.5, 2.0, 0.5 and 2.0 kg in actual ingredients per hectare, respectively, are effective. First foliar application should be given soon after noticing the mite appearance on the crop and the subsequent 3–4 sprayings may be given at 10-day intervals depending on the persistence of mite infestation.
