*Contibution from Central Potato Research Station, Modipuram, (Meerut, UP).
In field trials (1914–75 and 1975–76) in sandy alluvial soils of Babugarh (U. P.) total yields of tubers cv Kufri Chandramukhi decreased with increasing spacing within each seed size used. At equal seed rate the size of the tuber did not produce differential effect on yield. Closer spacing gave the highest yield of total as well as seed grade tubers. Yields from seed tubers of size 25–31 mm, 32–38 mm and 39–44 mm planted at respective spacing of 10, 20 and 30 cm in rows 60 cm apart were similar.
