Abstract

Immunity against early blight incited by Alternaria solani (Ell. & Mart.) Jones & Grout was not observed in any of the 250 genotypes of cultivated and wild tuber-bearing species of Solanum screened under field as well as laboratory conditions. However, a high degree of resistance was recorded in 39 clones of 7 wild Solanum species, namly S. acaule, S. acroscopicum, S. berthaultii, S. bulbocastanum, S. cardiophytlum, S. phureja, S. tarijense. Among the rest, 55 types including Indian commercial varieties, Kufri Jeevan, Kufri Naveen and Kufri Sindhuri, were observed to be moderately resistant.
