Studies on seed size and spacing in potato (Solanum tuherosum L.) for optimum tuber yield

Abstract

Investigations were carried out to find the optimum intra-row spacings for planting small (25–35 mm) medium (35–45 mm) and large (45–55 mm) seed tubers at Shillong during summer seasons of 1977 and 1978. The plant height, number of shootss, leaves, tuber number and tuber yeild per plant increased with the increase in seed size and intra-row spacings (50-100gs) Tuber yield increased by decreasing the intra-row spacings with respect to yield and economics for small medium and large seed tubers were 15. The optimum intra-row spacings 20 and 25 cm respectlvely at the inter-row spacing of 60 cm.
