Eighty one genotypes of potato were evaluated for genetic divergence by using the Mahalanobis D2 statistic. The varieties differed significantly for all the characters under study. The population fell into 6 clusters of which cluster 1 was the largest accommodating 48 genotypes. The cluster VI had large genetic distances from the remaining clusters. Regarding mean values of clusters all the clusters were highly distinct from one another for different characters. The genotypes, JF-303, JH-4962, JF-27, F-6787, JF-4886, JF-3024, JF-759, FR-65, JF-246, BS/E-123, FR-99, JF-24 and BS/E-775 can be selected from different clusters for further hybridization.
