Studies were undertaken on tubers of cultivars Kufri Chandramukhi and Kufri Jyoti under natural and artificial conditions of infection to determine whether tubers from infected plants could serve as source of primary infection. Alternaria solani was found to be incapable of causing infection to uninjured tubers under both conditions.
Tubers collected from fields of potato severely attacked with early blight did not show presence of Alternaria solani.
Soil naturaly or artifically infected was found to incite infection of A. solani.
