Abstract

An experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of treating fresh potato tubers (cv. Bintje) with some growth regulators and thiourea. Percentage shoot emergence was inhibited by kinetin, ethrel and gibberellic acid.

Treatment of potato tubers with kinetin, ethrel or thiourea alone gave unsatisfactory results in relation to breaking dormancy, yield, and the quality.

Gibberellic acid increased stem and tuber number, and improved the quality. The best results were obtained with gibberellic acid (10 ppm) or a combination of gibberellic acid (2.5 ppm) and thiourea (20000 ppm).
