The present paper is an analysis of the growth of library and information science (LIS) research in India. It presents a brief history of the LIS research in India gradually moving up to the present scenario. Along with the review of various studies in this area, an analysis of ‘University News’ and major Indian and a few International LIS journals is done to identify the primary areas of research in LIS, probed by Indian LIS academics and professionals. The author also looks into the issues and difficulties faced by LIS research in India.
