In the present paper, an attempt has been made to identify the research trends in library and information science. Efforts were made to study the various research fields carried out in recent past and the contribution of the selected state universities in the Karnataka state. It has been observed that Karnataka University produced the highest number of Ph. D. theses, that is, 94 with 33.57%. It is observed that most of the universities have given top priority to information and communication technology.
