Manuscripts are handwritten and unpublished documents. These are available in different forms, languages, scripts and cover a wide range of subjects. This is the richest and the largest Indian cultural heritage which needs digital preservation. In this context, this paper discusses digital preservation of manuscripts, their importance, preservation requirements, preservation of knowledge in different formats and initiatives taken in this regard. The Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library, Patna has the distinction of having the most ancient and medieval collections of manuscripts. The study highlights the collection and examines the methods used in digital preservation of manuscripts in Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library, Patna. It also includes the advantages of digital preservation of manuscripts.
