Research Trends of Knowledge and Information Science in Iran (2009–2013)

Abstract

The study attempts to trace the research trends in knowledge and information science in Iran during the period 2009–2013 as reflected through scholarly journals published in Iran.

Content analysis was used to identify the core research areas by quantifying the frequency of 35 descriptors assigned to 912 journal articles of Iranian authors published in seven journals.

The result showed a research trend focusing on Automation Study-14.1%, The Professions-7.3%, Study of Citation Patterns and Structures-7.1%, Research on Library and Information Service Activities-6.3%, Study of other Types of Databases (factual, textual, numeric)-5%, Study of Information Management-4.9%, Study of User Education-3.8%, Study of Administration or Planning-3.6%, Information Use Study-3% and other subjects-3.5%.

This paper identified developing process of research trend in knowledge and information science in Iran.
