Abstract

Open access (OA) has become an important way to make research findings freely available for anyone to access and view. It has emerged as a major development in the world of scholarly communication and has the potential to alter the university publishing environment and change the ways in which everyone accesses research material, like scholarly journals. Generally, university researcher and professors carry out research and report their findings among the articles in peer-reviewed journals and are published by the commercial publishers. Many articles are available over the World Wide Web free of charge to all readers. In recent years, OA has steadily gained momentum. Most journals and publishers today have OA channels and authors have the choice to publish OA. But still there are many confusions about OA publishing. Hence, this paper mainly elaborates the concept of OA publishing, article publishing charges, models and also clears misconceptions about OA publishing.
