Restructuring LIS Curricula in India: A Study

Abstract

A survey was conducted to study the present situation of library and information science (LIS) education in different universities in India. Data was collected using a questionnaire from the LIS teachers and librarians working in different universities in India. The main aim of this survey is to know the present scenario of the library science education system in India and also to find out the need of restructuring the present LIS curriculum in different universities in India. The present study reveals that the majority of the LIS teachers and librarians strongly felt that the LIS curriculum needs to be revised to face the present changing technological developments in the field of LIS. And they also felt that the students need to acquire latest information and communication technology skills as part of their study.
