Library movement in Telangana: Role of Book Publishing Houses

Abstract

Library movement it erstwhile Telangana of Hyderabad State and role of Publishing Houses (Granthamalas) were discussed in this paper at length. The Granthamalas means book Publishing Houses, which were launched by eminent scholars to publish different kind of subject books, to awaken the masses to fight for their rights. Multifaceted personalities like Suravaram Prathapa Reddy, Oddiraju Brothers, Vattikota Alwar Swamy, K.C. Gupta, Gundavaram Hanumantha Rao and host of others established these book Publishing Houses, they were also started libraries and journals to promote Telugu language, culture as well as to fight against the tyranny of Nizam government and landlords. Hence the Granthamalas played vital role in awakening the native people.
