Abstract

KOHA is one of the most popular open-source software programs in the world due to its user-friendliness, free and regular upgrades. In addition, the need-based customization makes this software more powerful and user-friendly for librarians as well as users, because with a little knowledge of HTML scripting, its Web- OPAC can become more interactive and personal. Koha’s Web-OPAC customization feature can be used by librarians without much knowledge of HTML coding or website design. This article presents a Web-OPAC case study by the ICAR Library. The customization done at the ICAR Library is purely based on needs, and the comprehensive features and options have not been used to make it more attractive; however, Web-OPAC modification is an ongoing process. After using more options, the Web-OPAC will become more attractive and interactive. In this article, we have tried to share the experience of the ICAR Library so that other library professionals can customize their Web-OPAC and bring their library resources to users’ desktops.
