RFID-technology is increasingly being adopted by libraries to improve their operations and services with different-benefits such as better stock management and effective user services. However, the implementation of RFID faces several technical challenges that prevent its wide deployment. This study identifies key barriers like high-levels of start-up costs, compatibility with legacy systems, data security and privacy concerns, an inadequacy of infrastructure, and the ongoing need for specialized training. Furthermore, challenges also address scalability, environmental impact, and user resistance. The study ends with some thoughts on how to overcome these roadblocks, with a view to enabling universal RFID deployment and optimization of library operations.
