Disasters are sudden, disruptive events that inflict severe damage on human life, infrastructure, ecosystems, and socio-economic systems. Disasters can stem from natural phenomena, anthropogenic activities, or a complex interplay of both. Regardless of their origin, disasters often exceed the coping capacities of affected communities, necessitating structured emergency responses and long-term recovery strategies. Effective disaster management hinges on a systematic classification of disaster typologies, enabling targeted preparedness, impact assessment, and risk mitigation. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for categorizing disasters.
