Abstract

The paper highlights status of Library and Information Science Education in the country with particular reference to Northern India and points out factors responsible for unbalanced growth of the Library education. It analysis status of library education State/UTs, District/City wise in relation to various parameters i.e. area, population, literacy rate and number of library schools. It also highlights several variations/discrepancies in terms of nomenclature of degrees, curriculum, intake, course duration, admission criteria, evaluation procedure, availability of the infrastructural facilities etc. and suggested strategies for balanced growth and development of library education in the country with special reference to Northern India.
