The present paper discusses and the role of National Mission for Manuscripts in preserving, organising and disseminating information, contained in Indian manuscripts by Oriental Research Institute (SVORI), Tirupati The Institute has rich collection of 50,000 palm leaf and paper manuscripts in which the Sanskrit Manuscripts have the lion's share, followed by Telugu and Tamil Manuscripts. Among the Paper Manuscripts, Telugu Manuscripts have major share than Sanskrit Manuscripts. The Library gets a fixed grant of Rs. 30,000-00 per year through S.V. University, Tirupati, for preservation and organization of Manuscripts. The problems of the Library are (a) inadequate storage space, (b) non-availability of facilities for pest control measures, (c) insufficient funds (d) inadequate professional and supporting staff and (e) non-availability of Fumigation Chamber to protect Manuscripts. The paper came out with the major recommendations that digitizing the most endangered manuscripts, the most extraordinary examples of Indian Art and those items most frequently used. Further, the paper suggests the affective measures for improving the techniques of preservation and organization of manuscripts in SVORI.
