Abstract

This paper focuses on the delegation of authority in university library management and explains the authority, power, responsibility and accountability that are interrelated in delegation process. The article indicates which delegating techniques work and gives reasons why some of them ought to work may bear undesirable results. It also strikes refreshingly by giving due attention to what the subordinates thinks, feels and why they reacts in the process of authority or power delegation, leading to better achievement of organizational objectives in management of university libraries. University library is the knowledge base of the total higher education system. They are facing many challenges in smooth functioning of management and administration. Delegation is a skill and an art. Done effectively, it can be one of the most powerful tools a Librarian or subordinate can use for getting things done.
