Abstract

This study attempted to find out whether variations in the academic roles of teaching and research are associated with variations in the information importance of engineering faculty members. The conjecture made was that role is a source of major variation in information importance. This conjecture was formulated in the form of six research hypotheses, which tested the proposed dimensions of information importance. The matched pairs Wilcoxon signed ranks test was employed to test the hypotheses as a directional one tailed test at the 0.05 level of significance. Data were collected through a questionnaire method. Results shoed that role accounts for a significant proportion of information importance. Of the six hypotheses tested, five hypotheses were supported by the data collected, and one hypotheses could not be supported. Results also showed that of the six significant findings, 4 information sources were scored higher in the teaching role and two information sources were scored higher in the research role.
