Abstract

The user study is an essential phenomenon in a library for the refinement of its functioning and services. Many number of user studies have been carried out all over the world except only few in a working environment. This study aims to picturaize the perceptions of working community in a special work place library like Chennai Corporation Library. For the purpose of the study a questionnaire has been designed and administered among the 100 respondents selected for this study on the basis of judgment sampling procedure. The results reveled that the informal communication is the more important source for their day to day work and most of the respondents preferred to use technical journals because most of the respondents participated in the survey are Engineers. Based on the results, fruitful suggestions are made to improve the existing conditions of the library so as to increase its efficiency up to the level of expectations of its clientele. Thus, this study formed to be a role model for the Library use studies.
