Knowledge Management in Academic Libraries

Knowledge management is a new field drawing on several disciplines, including library and information science. This paper mainly focuses on knowledge management and the role of library and information professionals in managing the knowledge and information in the Academic Libraries. Knowledge management offers academic libraries the opportunity to improve effectiveness, both for themselves and their parent institutions. Review of the development of knowledge management and comparison between information management and knowledge management is presented in this paper. This paper also describes the development and use of Information and Communication technologies to alter the services provided, research conducted, and learning occurs.
