The ‘scientific journal’ is a highly essential information resource to the academic community for their research work and publication of research results. The ‘serials crisis’ is more experienced in developing countries including India over the past decades. The efforts of UGC Infonet consortia and also the subscription of databases by the libraries result in an exponential rise in the access of journals by the university academic community. Thus, the paper intends to study the influence of increasing number of journals on the research output of University of Hyderabad, which has a distinguished research profile over a period of time. The results of Pearson Correlation Coefficient (r)’ indicate that research output is in coordination with the journals growth. It is suggested to provide useful journals considering the gaps in the requirements of the academic community. The bibliographic search databases like SCOPUS need to include journals from more geographical regions.
