In the wake of fast emerging technologies, the Library and information science professionals have to learn, understand and adjust themselves to the basic working procedures of Internet and web technologies which seem to be their future of the 21st century. A number of publishing organisations and knowledge banks which hitherto followed only print media formats have been closed in the last decade, particularly in the United States of America (USA). The library and information science professionals have to understand the sweeping changes that parade in the new millennium which brought sea of change to the 20th century landscape in library and information sciences and its age old practices and procedures. This paper is mainly intended to make the library and information science professionals aware of the advancing technologies and also to wake them up, encourage them and inspire them to learn the basics of Internet and web technologies so that they can reach (at least) the minimal levels of professional heights where the experts deal effectively and efficiently with advancing technologies.
“Internet is a boon for the information professionals whose main aim is to provide information to their users. It is the most widely used tool to get latest as well as retrospective information.”
