Abstract

Agriculture is mainstay of more than two-third of population in India as 60–65% of population is in villages and earns their livelihood through agriculture and related activities. A total of 91% of India's population lived in villages during 1900s this number has eroded in course of time and it is expected to be 50% by 2020. Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy and animal husbandry is backbone of agriculture. The agriculture sector is in serious crunch and the situation become worse when there is draught or flood. Series of hurdles in agriculture sector and neglected field of animal husbandry as co-business to agriculture has made a serious concern and obtained the national attention as evident from the recent suicides in Vidharbha region. Adoption of newer technologies and awareness among the farmers along with minimum assurance from government may turn the picture. Our livestock development programmes in the state are affected due to depletion of pasture, low public investment, productivity stagnation, inadequate technological applications and low processing efficiency of animal by-products and appropriation of value by market intermediaries at the cost of farmers. Livestock, unlike farming, rearing is less affected by weather conditions and thus provide dependable source of income to the farmers during lean agriculture period, which provide fair amount of sustainability to family. The above facts reveal that more research and invention are required in order to elevate the production and augment the income of the poor farmers. The veterinarians are working hard to invent something new to facilitate the farmers to increase the production. The librarian can assist the researchers several ways. The librarian offers several services to make the research work easy. The content analysis is one of the methods to provide information and reference to the previous research work to the researchers.
