Abstract

This paper traces the growth and development of PhD programmes in library and information science (LIS) education in India and also highlights the initiative and efforts of contemporary LIS professionals in South India. Analysis of doctoral researches conducted by universities clearly indicates the direction in which a specific subject field is moving. This study shows that the maximum research was conducted in the area of bibliometrics study, i.e., 28.00%. The Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, is the highest contributor, i.e., 14 (56.00%), to the field of LIS in terms of doctoral research productivity.
