Abstract

Doctoral theses in India remain as restricted collections in the libraries to be used by the academic community from inside only. Research is incomplete until its result has been communicated. This paper is an attempt to make a bibliometric sketch of research productivity in the fields of Social Sciences in Odisha. The data of this study are collected from the completed Ph.D. theses of Social Science disciplines that have been submitted in the three major universities of Odisha during the period 2000–2011. A majority of the doctoral research across all the disciplines are focused towards the regional issues while others are focused towards national issues. It is observed that the subjects like Education, Economics, History, Business Administration, Law and Political Science are the highly productive subjects, whereas Sociology, Psychology, Home Science, Anthropology, Library and Information Science JMC and Public administration are found to be the emerging areas of research.
