Abstract

The Oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) is one of the most important pests of mango, Mangifera indica L in India. The use of host-plant resistance to control this insect is an interesting and potentially useful technique, but in need of more research. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the ovipositional non-preference of B. dorsalis to selected polyembryonic varieties of mango viz., EC 95862 and Mylupilian thorugh choice/no-choice bioassays. These polyembryonic genotypes were found less preferred over standard comparisons, showing ovipositional non-preference in both the assays. The practical utility of these results are discussed in detail.
