Incidence of metallic shield bug, Scutellera perplexa (Westwood) (= S. nobilis Fabricius) on grape in Punjab

Roving and fixed plot surveys were conducted during 2014–2015 to monitor the insect pests of grape crop in Punjab. During these surveys, the metallic shield bug, Scutellera perplexa (Westwood) (=Scutellera nobilis Fabricius) was observed as a minor pest. Eggs, nymphs and adults were observed on trunks, leaves and fruit bunches. Nymphs and adults were observed sucking sap from the leaves as well as from the fruits. These bugs caused direct damage by sucking sap and reducing quality of fruits and indirect damage by enhancing fungal attack on fruits at the points of puncture. Population was observed to be starting from 17^th standard meteorological week(SMW)till the harvest of the crop(23^rd SMW). Peak population was recorded during 20^th SMW i.e. during last week of May.
