“Management is not the direction of goods but the development of people.” The concept development of people contains a lot of attributes of human personality which should be developed to make one a good manager. It should give the answer of the question that what attributes should be developed in one's personality to make him/her successful manager to perform the functions of management. The qualities of prompt decision making, motivation, leadership and communication are those attributes, which should be developed. Management is universal and exists is in every activity of life. The present paper attempts to prove that Sanskrit literature has given wonderful directions to understand the functions of management and for the development of the human beings and the same is the purpose of management.
Laurence Apple quoted “Management is not the direction of goods but the development of people”. Management is a universal process and exists in each and every activity of life. Direction of goods is easier and can be done by the person who is of ordinary knowledge. But the work of development of people is quite critical and involves such a complex phenomenon, human behavior at workplace.
The development of people requires great talent and integrations of various managerial traits in one's personality. Sanskrit literature indicates towards a lot of traits essential for managers to develop themselves and their subordinates as well as the whole personnel in the organization. Sanskrit literature also provides the adequate importance to the functions and principles. The present paper is divided in the two parts, as introduction it discusses management and its functions and the second major part unveil the wonderful contribution of Sanskrit literature in providing great managerial traits.
